Fees

Do you charge by the hour or by the job?
A combination of both. My fee is based on the estimated number of hours an assignment requires. I use the following hourly rates to estimate costs:

  • $50/hr to research funding opportunities
  • $65/hr to provide feedback on rejected proposals or to review pending proposals
  • $65/hr to conduct staff training on grant writing or program evaluation basics
  • $85/hr for program evaluation services
  • $100/hr for grant writing services

Are your fees flexible?
Yes, under the following circumstances:

  • I may reduce my hourly rate based on the organization’s budget and size, up to 50%
  • If it’s a rush job, I may increase my fees
  • If am re-working the same request for multiple funders, a discount rate is applied
  • When meeting clients outside of San Diego County, I add mileage costs, with travel time billed at half-rate

Can you guarantee success in procuring us grant funds?
No. A successful grant application requires not only a well-written proposal, but other factors not in my control such as an agency’s capability, solvency, program experience and staff qualifications. However, for agencies contracting for 8-10 proposals on the same program, I do offer this guarantee – if none of the proposals are funded, I will submit 4-5 more on the same program at no charge.

Do you write grants on contingency or commission?
No. It is against the Association of Fundraising Professionals Code of Ethical Principles and Standards to accept compensation based on a percentage of funds received or to accept contingency fees.

How do we get started working with you?
Your first step is to prepare a consulting agreement including a description of my assignment(s) and a maximum allowable cost. (Sample agreements are available upon request.) Once the agreement is signed by both parties, I will be ready to work.

How does the billing process work?
For grant writing clients, I submit an invoice along with a time sheet once the grant has been submitted. For agencies contracting for multiple grant proposals or program evaluation, I submit invoices monthly or quarterly. To avoid a late fee, please mail your payment within 30 days. I also provide a signed IRS W-9 form to your accounting department so an IRS 1099-MISC form can be issued to me at year’s end.
